Teachable Moments
"Suppose a man says to God, 'I am guilty but will offend no more. (32) Teach me what I cannot see; if I have done wrong, I will not do so again.' (33) Should God then reward you on your terms, when you refuse to repent? You must decide, not I; so tell me what you know. (Job 34:31-33)

Many foolishly think that all God is after are words from our lips that speak something like, "I see what you are saying, I will not do that wrong again." Most churches would be proud of the words in Job 34 and unable to see the sinful scheming hidden in such spiritual sounding words.

"Teach me what I cannot see," many in church declare, but it is all a lying pretence. Such liars act like they didn't understand something and that now that they do understand they will not commit that sin again. Such would have God believe that somehow they are open to change if someone will just discuss the possible wrongs.

God's point is never the point the person is espousing they just learned was a sin. A man or woman may spend their whole Christian life discussing with God and many specific points of sin, but such points are not, nor ever have been God's point. Such splattered splashes of humility and changes of action are not repentance. Instead, they are telling God how they will and will not repent. Their discussions of "if" and "teach me" are obstacles to be avoided by those traveling on the highway of holiness.
